New Delhi. Eggs have transcended from mere dietary choices to an indispensable staple in every household. It can be asserted that eggs now grace the tables of most homes, around the clock. The rationale behind this ubiquitous consumption lies in the fact that eggs stand out as the most economical and optimal source of protein. Furthermore, as the mercury drops, there is a discernible uptick in the penchant for egg consumption.
Poultry entrepreneurs find themselves in a lucrative position this season, benefiting from favorable egg rates. However, their contentment contrasts with the less favorable returns experienced in other seasons. Nationally, a modest 138.40 crore local eggs have been harvested, coinciding with a burgeoning number of egg enthusiasts. Delving deeper, we unveil the state-wise production figures, shedding light on which region contributes how many eggs.

Explore the egg production across states
When examining the leading states in egg production, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, West Bengal, and Karnataka emerge as the top five contributors, collectively accounting for 64.93% of the nation’s total egg output. Some densely populated states, driven by high egg consumption, resort to importing eggs from these prolific states. Furthermore, these states actively engage in exporting eggs internationally. Noteworthy statistics reveal Andhra Pradesh leading the pack with an impressive production of 278 crore eggs (20.13%), trailed by Tamil Nadu (15.58%, 215 crore), Telangana (12.77%, 176 crore), West Bengal (9.93%, 137 crore), and Karnataka (6.51%, 90 crore).

Aggregate egg production in the country
Throughout the 2022-23 period, the nation witnessed a robust production of 138.38 billion eggs, translating to a remarkable 13,838 crore eggs. In contrast, the preceding year (2021-22) observed a lower production of 12,960 crore eggs, and even less in 2020-21, totaling 12,204 crore eggs. Reflecting a noteworthy uptick from the previous year (2021-22), the 6.77% increase in egg production underscores India’s consistent global ascent in this domain, securing the third position worldwide.
